Circuit of the Americas...Really?

Is that the best name they could come up with?

Come on now, Circuit of the Americas is a terrible name! With all the hype surrounding this facility, and the tourism boom that will come with the track's completion and events in both F1 and MotoGP, they could have certainly done better.

I understand that Austin is a blend of both American and Latin influences, so the 'Americas' moniker does apply quite well, but everything is bigger in Texas and the name should show their independence.

Also, I dislike the fact that Hermann Tilke is the lead designer of the track. His tracks are stunning, but not really raceworthy in the sense that overtaking is next to impossible and they all follow a similar motif. It should have been designed with overtaking in mind. It is difficult to fathom a Texas track where passing is an issue because every other race track in the entire state seems to be a haven for passing.

Why don't you come up with a name?

I am sure you can do better than them, so why not prove it by commenting with your own suggestions? I'll put a few of mine below. They are rather basic...

  • Circuit of the Lone Star
  • Texas International Raceway
  • Austin Racing Circuit

I like Circuit of the Americas for now. Doesn't step on any toes! Maybe the name will morph as the whole development evolves. As in the UT football stadium....once Memorial Stadium, then Darrell K. Royal Stadium and then finally Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium to honor both the retired coach and the veterans.
